VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Volunteer Information

As one of the only play-based pediatric therapy clinics in Hawai’i, Sprouts Therapy provides a fun and unique setting for offering occupational, speech, physical, and feeding therapy on the island of O’ahu. We encourage and welcome students and volunteers to share their time with us as they pursue their studies and future careers in related fields.

For students interested in OT, PT, speech, and/or feeding therapy or those looking for volunteer hours, we offer opportunities for observation hours/class/graduate requirements. Currently, however, we are unable to provide formal shadowing or internships and cannot guarantee students will shadow one specific therapist. At Sprouts, you would not always be strictly shadowing/observing — there are many volunteer responsibilities including setting up/cleaning up for feeding therapy, special projects, general cleaning/tidying of the clinic and waiting rooms, vacuuming, helping therapists move equipment, etc.

Also, here are a few things to know about volunteering at Sprouts:

  1. We ask our volunteers to commit to accumulate a minimum of 40 hours over the course of volunteering with us.
  2. We require a TB test that's been done within the last year.
  3. You'll be required to come in for a volunteer orientation that lasts about 1 and a half hours (these are Saturday afternoons only).
  4. We ask our volunteers to be in the clinic for a minimum of 3 hour time blocks so that you can observe a variety of clients and maximize assisting us in sessions. If you would like more than a 3-hr shift that is also acceptable. We will work out a schedule with you.

If this sounds like something you can commit to, please complete the agreement and questionnaire. Once complete, we will contact you to schedule an orientation.

For TB testing, we do recommend visiting Oahu's primary TB Testing Location at Lanakila Health Center to start your TB clearance. You will get pricked and will need to return to the center after a few days to receive a letter stating you are cleared. For more information, click here.
